and the price for a litre of filtered water in Dubai is…
...0.7fils. That's not a typo there. The lowest cost of DEWA water in Dubai, when on a commercial tariff, is 3.5 fils per Imperial Gallon (1IG = 4.54 liters).
For 1 Dirham you can drink over one hundred and forty liters of water from our machines. If you drink the recommended 3 liters of water a day, you could get through about 47 days on the water you spend with that 1 Dirham. For that same Dirham you can provide that same recommended 3 liters of drinking water per day for up to 50 members of staff. If you take into account the working hours of a staff member then you (as a business) can supply more than 80 staff members with water per day!
The cost of bottled water here is in our minds crazy. It's crazy because we know how much it costs them to fill it up and it's crazy to think that in almost all local bottles of water you are drinking exactly the same water that is coming out of our machines. Sure, the international bottles are even more expensive but they have to cover shipment charges and import duty and such. 'And those fancy green glass bottles ain't cheap ya know!'
We see even higher prices in most restaurants here. There are a few restaurants that offer free filtered water from a water purifier to their customers and we love it. Anything that gets rid of plastic bottles is good in our eyes, even if they are not all using our machines. The other restaurants are sure to follow suit in the next few years. In fact we are working with a few restaurants which will open towards the end of the year who want to offer their customers still and sparkling water either completely for free or for a small charge of say Dhs10 for unlimited water. Either way works financially for the customer as well as for the restaurant. Not only are they freeing up storage space but also doing their part for the environment.
So if you like the sound of that restaurant owners, get it touch and see what we can do together to make Dubai a little bit more greener (environmentally speaking, not glass bottle speaking :) ).
