All about the Water
If you ask the average person on the streets of Dubai if they drink tap water, the normal answer is 'No'. There are a lot of valid arguments against drinking tap water... brown water coming from the taps being the main one followed closely by not knowing if the building water tanks are regularly cleaned and the smell of chlorine in the water that comes out of the taps.
Unfortunately the brown water problem traditionally comes from the pipes which are being used in buildings of a poor quality. Metal rusts, and cheap metal pipes rust quick, so the the rust itself seeps into the water. This is something we cannot control and the first thing we ask our customers is if they have this problem. If we installed our machines and connected a water supply with rusted water, we would have to change the filter every few hours due to it getting clogged up, that unfortunately is not the solution.
From our experience over the last few years, the majority of business tower owner's have regular maintenance schedules for their water tanks (which is also a law in Dubai which some people do not know). In the initial meeting we ask our potential clients to ask their building maintenance company the question about schedules and only a few have come back with no concrete maintenance plan. This was a pleasant surprise.
The smell of Chlorine in water is more common than we first thought. Instead of using eco-friendly water tank cleaning products, maintenance companies simply threw in some swimming pool Chlorine and closed the lid of the tank...cleaning done. Fortunately for us, the filters we use have active charcoal in them which neutralises the smell and taste of Chlorine. One of our first water purifiers we installed was in the Al Quoz industrial area of Dubai. When we first opened the tap in the office the smell reminded us of an indoor swimming pool it was that strong. It turned out to be a good test for our filters which they passed with no problems. Completely neutral smelling water. Completely drinkable...we proved it, and we always prove it...
After each water purifier we install, the first thing we do is to flush the machine and filter with about 10 litres of water for each function (cold still, room temperature still and cold sparkling). We let the machine cool down the water and then we fill up several sterilised containers. These water samples are taken to a Municipality-recognised laboratory in Dubai where the samples are tested for drinkability. The Lab uses the UAE guidelines for Unbottled Drinking Water and tests for chemical contents of the water as well as biological tests for unwanted matter.
Upon a successful test the Lab issues us a certificate which we hand over to our clients to prove to them that the water they are drinking is completely safe. A salesperson with gadgets magically testing water can lie about the quality. A stamped certificate from an international laboratory cannot. We see everything that is in the water, from how much calcium is in it to how much sodium (the subject of sodium and general water quality will have its own blog post soon).
This quality of service is something new to Dubai and it is something that we are proud of. We are seriously lifting the bar on customer service, serving our clients everyday, all day. We want our customers to know that we have got their backs, from the quality of their water to the service of their machines. We are there! So get in touch about how we can welcome you into the Sprudel family. Let's Sprudel!
